HD Clarity: A Study to Collect Cerebrospinal Fluid Collection (CSF) from Persons with Huntington's Disease and Healthy Controls, to facilitate therapeutic development for Huntington's Disease

What we are studying

The purpose of this study is to collect and store cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), the fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. The CSF will be collected by a procedure called a lumbar puncture or spinal tap. There is a screening visit to determine eligibility, a sampling visit to collect the CSF and an optional 3rd visit for another LP to collect additional CSF.

    • Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander

  • All Ethnicities
  • Ages 21 - 75

Eligibility Criteria

  • Potential subjects must meet the criteria of one of the following:
    • 1) Have a clinical diagnosis of Huntington's Disease
  • 2) Have no clinical diagnosis of Huntington's Disease
  • But has tested positive for the HD gene
  • 3) Must be healthy and have no family history of HD Subjects with a clotting disorder
  • Or taking antiplatelet or anticoagulant therapy will be excluded. Other exclusion criteria may apply.

What is involved

  • There are 2 - 3 study visits in this study. The visits will be conducted in the Clinical Research Unit (CRU) Visit 01 - a brief physical and neurological exam
  • Blood collection
  • Collection of medical history and medications
  • And cognitive testing. Visit 02 - Fasting visit with lumbar puncture (LP) to collect the CSF and blood collection. Visit 03 (Optional) - Additional fasting visit with LP to collect additional CSF.


$300.00 per CSF Sampling Visit
